Prof. A S Chandel is a former Professor & Head, Department of Library & Information Science, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. Hejoined this University as University Librarianon 21st September, 2013. He was UGC Emeritus Fellow during 2012-13 andhas also served as a member of Advisory Board forNCERT and National Library of India.Prior to joining Sikkim University he was OSD (Library), Mizoram University), Chairman, Library Digitization UGC project under UPE (University with Potential for Excellence) NEHU, Shillong, Adviser Digitization, Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, University Librarian-cum-Head, Computer and Instrumentation Centre,

He was also selected and nominated for SAARC nations to represent India as Deputy Director(Information) to SAARC Agricultural Information Centre Dhaka (1994-1997). He has been a member of various Boards, Committees,Councilsof national importance. He has several publications to his credit which includes books andmore than 70 papers published in national and international journals and several chapters in various books. His recent book publications areKnowledge Management in Digital Era (2012) and Gender Perspectives: South Asian Writings in English and in English Translation (Co-Editor).
He is a recipient of PLA (Punjab Library Association). Award, Prof.Satija Award forProfessional Excellence (2011) and Award of Honour by Association of Agricultural Librarians and Documentaristsof India (2011).
